July School Holiday Programs with SWEK
With the July School Holiday concluded the local youth were known to seek other entertainments and means by which to occupy their time - dropping in at the Kununurra Youth Centre and Wyndham Recreation Centres were options.
The staff at both Wyndham and Kununurra Centres had been busily involved with youth activities - including celebrating NAIDOC week and painting a decorative banner at Wyndham.
Other Activities in Wyndham included the ever popular disco, sporting activities and the commencement of the Youth Tidy Towns Project. Over 400 visits were made by young people in the Wyndham holiday activities.
Meanwhile in Kununurra a group of Perth based young people together with some local groovers (and a boarder home from Perth) had been conoeing, abseiling, hanging around and enjoying themselves. Over 60 people attended the structured activities whilst over 120 visits were made by young people to the free activities conducted at "The Lounge" during the holiday break.

Volunteering
Do you want to assist with any of our youth activities? You can help on a Saturday evening once per month or assist in "The Lounge". We always need volunteers to assist in the delivery of our programs. Even if it's just an hour per week. If you are interested please call Sue at the Youth Centre
Basketball at Night

Want to play basketball outside under lights on a Saturday evening? Then rock on down to the courts outside the Youth Centre at 6pm for a game. Games are organised each week until 7.30pm for young people 10 years of age and above.
October and November 2009 saw the Sunset Basketball program commence supported by Healthways "Drug Aware" and the Department of Sport and Recreation. With such a successful turnout, the concept has continued as part of the Shires Youth Services program.
Each Saturday evening, youth between 12 and 18 can attend at no cost, they play a game of basketball, attend a health and wellbeing “seminar”/education session and finish off with a healthy meal cooked and prepared by the many volunteers
In total there has been over 100 participants attend with up to 60 attending each evening.

If you want to join any of the above groups or would like further information please contact the Youth Office on 9169 3253 or Ken Liddicoat on 0437 051 828.
