The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley is pleased to advise that in recogniton of the Kununurra Library taking part in the Better Beginnings - Social Return on Investment evaluation last year, they went in the draw to win Storytime and Rhyme Time resources.

They have been offered $1000 worth of resources. The Library will be putting this towards some new puppets and felt story boards which will be available to be borrowed, as well as being used in Rhyme Time and Storytime each week.

Better Beginnings is a program developed by the State Library of Western Australia as a family literacy program that supports parents as their child’s first teacher. The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley along with other local governments throughout Western Australia partner with Rio Tinto as major sponsors to deliver this program. The partnership works to:

  • Build awareness in the whole community of the value of reading and sharing stories with young children from birth;
  • Encourage and support parents in sharing books and activities that foster language and a love of reading with their young children; and
  • Promote the vital role of public libraries as community hubs that provide ongoing support to parents and caregivers in giving their children a love of reading.
