Wyndham Multipurpose Courts - Repairs Completed

The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley would like to advise that repairs from a vandal attack on the Wyndham Swimming Pool and Wyndham Multipurpose Court have now been completed.
 
The Shire was forced to close the Wyndham Swimming Pool and Outdoor Basketball Court in May due to a break in. Fuel was used to ignite the grates of the pool as well as a rubbish bin on the outdoor courts causing significant damage to the pool filtration system and surface of the court.
 
Contractors were engaged as soon as the Shire’s insurance company gave approval for the repairs to be carried out. Darwin based Figleaf Pool Products repaired the Wyndham Swimming Pool damage at a cost of approximately $30,000. The pool will be required to close again in August or September for approximately 5 days to finalise the repairs.
 
West Coast Synthetic Surfaces have now completed the repairs on the outdoor multipurpose court. The surface was required to be stripped back to the base material, high pressure cleaned, sanded and finally re-coated and re-marked. The cost of repairs exceeded $33,000 with some minor work still required. The Shire took the opportunity to also carry out maintenance on the undercover multipurpose court at the Ted Birch Memorial Youth and Recreation Centre while specialist contractors were in the region.
 
The repairs will enable the Shire to continue to deliver a quality service program to the Wyndham community. With the recent partnership between the Wyndham Youth Aboriginal Corporation (WYAC) and the Shire working out of the Ted Birch Memorial Youth and Recreation Centre the program is again engaging Wyndham youths and providing a structured youth and recreation program.
 
The community are encouraged to begin using the Wyndham Swimming Pool again with the warmer weather almost upon us. It is hoped that by September Aqua Fitness will be on offer at the pool as well as continued programs such as Learn to Swim.
