From 01 July 2022, airfares for regional residents travelling to and from Perth will be capped by the McGowan Government. Local residents will now pay no more than $299 for a one-way flight when booked as a return flight. The State Government has committed $19.8 million to deliver on this election promise and has consulted extensively with regional communities and airlines to support regional aviation.

Shire President David Menzel welcomes this initiative and says this will create more connectivity and improve livability.

“The discounted flights between Kununurra and Perth is a great initiative for our region as we recover from the extremely difficult operating environment over the last few years,” said Cr David Menzel,

“The initiative will help achieve improved livability in the East Kimberley and provide more frequent and affordable connectivity for our residents”.

The new scheme is a partnership between the State Government, Virgin and Airnorth. To access the zone cap fares, residents will need to book a return fare with travel commencing in the regions. Tickets will go on sale through respective airlines form today for flights commencing from July 01, 2022.
