Kununurra School and Community Library

The Kununurra School and Community Library is a joint-use facility with East Kimberley College. The library aims to provide excellent and relevant library programs, resources and customer service to the students, community members and visitors of East Kimberley College and the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley.

Kununurra School and Community Library specialise in children's services, visiting author and illustrator events, programs that promote community harmony and resources about the Kimberley. Kununurra School and Community Library are frequently described as the cultural hub of the town - a reputation we are proud of!

Opening Hours

The Kununurra School and Community Library's normal operating hours are:

Monday 8am - 4pm
Tuesday 8am - 5:30pm
Wednesday 8am - 12:30pm
Thursday 8am - 5:30pm
Friday 8am - 4pm
Saturday 9am - 1pm


During School Holiday periods we open the following hours:

Special Events

The library hosts a number of events during the year. The Kimberley Writers Festival is an annual event that aims to entertain and inspire the residents of, and visitors to, the East Kimberley with a variety of authors, musicians, songwriters, storytellers and illustrators who share their life stories, expertise and love of the written and spoken word. Activities For Children And Parents

The Library offers Rhyme Time and Story Time each week. These sessions are an opportunity for children and their parents to read books, sing songs and participate in many other activities all of which will encourage the enjoyment of books.
The sessions are offered on these days:

Friday 9:00 am Rhyme Time

The Kimberley Echo newspaper is available weekly for reading at the Library.

Kanopy

Sign in to Kanopy with your library card to enjoy a large collection of indie films, classic cinema, festival and educational documentaries and popular movies.

Kanopy Kids

Kanopy Kids offers content that helps children develop empathy, mindfulness, and self-esteem through entertaining and educational videos. Categories include TV series, learning languages, animated storybooks, Anime favourites, classic films and family movies.

OverDrive

Sign in with your library card to enjoy eBooks, eAudio and eMagazines on any device, anytime, anywhere.

OverDrive Kids

OverDrive Kids provides a safe and easy browsing experience for children. Kids can browse, sample, place holds and borrow eBooks appropriate for their age range and reading level.

Western Australian Public Libraries Online Book Club

The Online Book Club is similar to in-person book clubs but runs online. Three books are available concurrently for a period of nine weeks, updated five times throughout the year. Once you sign up for Book Club, there is a FAQ guide that can help you download and access books. Note: a free Adobe Digital Editions account is required to download Book Club books.

Busy Things

An online site for children aged 3-11 with a collection of educational games and activities across a wide range of subject areas, from English to coding.

StoryBox Library

eBooks for kids with a vibrant interactive experience and diverse storytellers.


Management Committee

The Minister of Education and the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley hold a long-term agreement for the management of the library, to cater for the whole community. The agreement calls for the formations of a Management Committee of six people, including two community members, who meet on a monthly basis during the four school terms.

Activities for Children & Parents

WELA Story Time is held in the Wyndham Library on Thursday mornings starting at 8:30 am.  As part of the Better Beginnings program, the Library offers parents and children a large collection of Story Time and Better Beginnings books, audiobooks and access to State Library of Western Australia e-resources, including TumbleBooks and StoryBox.

Being eSmart - safe use of technology

The Wyndham Library is part of the eSmart program.  Its aim is to educate Library members about safe and informed use of internet technologies and what to do when cyber breaches occur.

The Australian Government Cyber[Smart] website provides fantastic information for all members of the community, including fun and educational videos for young kids, kids, teens, parents, schools, indigenous peoples and citizens, including advice on what to do when cyber breaches occur.

eBooks

Wyndham Library members can now download free eBooks, audiobooks and other publications from the State Library of Western Australia using their new Wyndham Library card (for those Library members with old cards, please come by the Wyndham Library to receive your new Library card).

Up to 5 items can be downloaded onto personal computers and most popular mobile devices for a period of 7, 14 or 21 days, after which time the item will “expire” and will no longer be accessible.
