What is the Local Planning Strategy?

The Local Planning Strategy provides the long term strategic planning framework for future developments within the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley for the next 10 years. The Strategy provides a strategic vision, land use ideas and other planning recommendations to guide future development across the Shire, and the rationale/justification for a Local Planning Scheme.

Review of Local Planning Strategy - Community Consultation

The Shire, in conjunction with consultants GHD, have undertaken a review of the Shire’s Local Planning Strategy.

This review has included the preparation of Local profiles to identify land use, movement, infrastructure, environment, social and economic profiles for the Shire. and preliminary draft land use plans and key recommendations for the updated Local Planning Strategy.

Extensive community consultation on the key recommendations and preliminary draft land use plans was undertaken in 2014 including meetings, open houses, workshops, intercept and online surveys.

The comments and ideas received have been used to refine the draft strategy prior to it being adopted by Council in February 2015, and referred to the Western Australian Planning Commission for endorsement and advertising.

Hard copies are available to view at the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley Administration Offices, located at 20 Coolibah Drive Kununurra and 6 Koolama Street Wyndham, will be available for inspection during office hours.

Draft Local Planning Strategy is currently being finalised and is expected to be submitted to the Minister for Planning for final approval in the near future.
