On Friday 19 June 2020, The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley held the 80's Disco Driveway to connect with the community and boost morale amidst the Coronavirus pandemic.

A disco truck drove through the streets of Kununurra with 80's disco music. Members of the community brought their families out dressed in their 80's get-up and danced on the streets. The event was live-streamed on the Shire's Facebook page with over 2,500 viewers.

Shire President, Cr David Menzel, said the Shire had hoped that this initiative would help connect the community and lift spirits during the Coronavirus pandemic.

"The Shire's hope for this event was to bring the community together and boost morale at a time of uncertainty," said Cr Menzel.

"It was beautiful to see our community embrace this initiative and come together in a fun and joyful way despite all the challenges over the last few months,

"It was even more fantastic to see organisations and agencies working together to bring this event to life."

The Shire would like to thank all those who volunteered their time to assist in making this event a success. The event would not have been possible without the support and assistance of the Kununurra Police (Kimberley District - WA Police Force), St John WA - Kununurra, Save the Children East Kimberley, Kununurra PCYC, Kununurra Community Kitchen, DJ Tim Lanzon and Archie.

A special thank you to the Shire staff and depot team for their assistance in decorating the disco truck and making this event possible.

The Shire is looking forward to bringing the 80's Driveway Disco to Wyndham next month, Friday 24 July 2020. For further information, visit http://tiny.cc/DrivewayDiscoWyd
