Airbus to operate high flying unmanned aircraft from Wyndham Airport

Published on Wednesday, 6 June 2018 at 7:46:38 AM

Airbus has selected Wyndham Airport as the base for their pioneering Zephyr solar powered unmanned aircraft.  This will make Wyndham the world’s first operational site for the launch and recovery of the unmanned aircraft known as High Altitude Pseudo Satellites (HAPS). The Zephyr is capable of flying weeks at a time without landing and operates by solar power.  The Zephyr has many uses including environmental monitoring, hosting communications links, precision farming guidance and providing internet coverage to regions of poor or zero connectivity.

Approximately 20 Airbus employees will be based in the region during operations.

The Shire is looking forward to working with Airbus and is excited for the prospects the project holds for Wyndham.
