Firebreak and Hazard Reduction Notice:

Published on Tuesday, 14 April 2020 at 1:43:05 PM

The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley would like to advise that Firebreak and Hazard reduction activities are required to be completed by 1 June 2020. Failure to do so will incur a fine in accordance with Section 33 of the Bush Fire Act 1954.

Landlords/occupiers are responsible for managing their property to reduce the risk of a bush fire. Below are a few tips to ensure you are following Firebreak protocols:

  • 'Burning off' permit is required during restricted times of the year (1 April - 14 January).
  • Fire hazard activities/requirements may vary depending on the type of property and where it is situated. Please see the brochure below for more information.
  • Remove all inflammable material before firebreak activity.
  • ‘Burning off’ is not permitted in the Kununurra or Wyndham town site at any time.

The Shire reserves the right to place further conditions upon the individual landowner/occupier where necessary, to reduce fire risk.

If it is considered impracticable for any reason to clear firebreaks or remove flammable material from the land, landowners/occupiers may apply via email to the Shire for permission to take alternative actions.

For additional information, please download the "Firebreak and Hazard Reduction Notice" here or contact Ranger Services on 9168 4100 or mail@swek.wa.gov.au.
