The Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley is continuing its commitment to creating a safe environment for all road users by installing courtesy speed display signs on the Great Northern Highway in the Wyndham townsite.

Excess speed has been an issue in the area and the courtesy speed display signs, supplied by Main Roads WA (Kimberley), is the latest initiative being rolled out to help reduce speeds in the Shire.

By detecting the speed of approaching vehicles, and displaying the speed and/or message as feedback to the driver if they need to change their driving behaviour, the courtesy speed display signs serve as an immediate reminder for drivers to slow down.

Shire President David Menzel said reducing travel speeds as you enter Wyndham was vital in order to help make it safe for all road users and reduce the impact and number of crashes.

“The deployment of the courtesy speed display signs supports the Shire’s other safe speed activities including the implementation of the ‘Please Slow Down, Consider Our Kids’ project, and active participant in National Road Safety,” he said.

“Through these and other initiatives, we are showing our commitment to road safety; I urge drivers in Wyndham and those driving through the town to be part of the solution.

“Be aware of your own speed when travelling on our roads. Aim to slow down and enjoy the ride” said Cr David Menzel.
