Pothole repairs have begun after recent wet weather

The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley wishes to advise that pothole repair works are currently being undertaken, unfortunately, due to heavy rains, works on the potholes were delayed. The recent dry weather has provided good condition for the operational staff to commence work on the maintenance of the roads. Contractors will also be engaged to expedite the progress.

Shire CEO, Vernon Lawrence acknowledges the reoccurring pothole problem in town and says the Shire is working on a solution.

“The Shire understands the extent of the pothole difficulty on our road network and recognises that patching is a temporary solution. We are prioritising renewal works on the road network as set out in our asset management plan as a more effective long term solution,” said Mr Lawrence,

“The Shire has implemented a resealing program that will be conducted during this calendar year to address part of the problem. However, resealing programs are extensive projects and expensive, so it will be rolled out over a number of financial years. This strategy should reduce the number and extent of potholes in future.”

In the interim, the Shire CEO is encouraging members of the community to drive to the condition of the road and to report any potholes to the Shire.

“Potholes are inevitable during the wet season, so I would like to encourage road users to drive slowly and to the conditions of the road. If you see a pothole around town, please use the “Send, Snap, Solve” app to report on it”.

Traffic management will be in place over the next couple of days as Shire staff begin repairs. The Shire wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience.
