SWEK Public Facilities to close today

Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley’s public facilities to close from midday today in response to further Federal Government restrictions


Yesterday the Federal Government introduced further restrictions in response to COVID-19. The following facilities will be restricted from opening from midday today, 23 March 2020:

  • Pubs, registered and licenced clubs (excluding bottle shops attached to these venues), hotels (excluding accommodation)
  • Gyms and indoor sporting venues
  • Cinemas, entertainment venues, casinos, and night clubs
  • Restaurants and cafes will be restricted to takeaway and/or home delivery
  • Religious gatherings, places of worship or funerals (in enclosed spaces and other than very small groups and where the 1 person per 4 square metre rule applies).

Facilities in isolated remote community hubs are not included in these restrictions.
Other facilities are not impacted, but will be considered under stage 2 restrictions, if necessary.
These measures also apply to outdoor spaces associated with the above venues.

With the above restrictions, all Shire facilities that fall within these categories will close effective as of 12-noon today, 23 March 2020. This includes:

  • The Kununurra Leisure Centre (including the Swimming Pool)
  • The Kununurra School and Community Library will be closed to the public
  • Wyndham Recreational Centre
  • Wyndham Library
  • Wyndham Pool.

In addition, further measures will be in place at the Shire Administration Buildings as follows:

  • You are encouraged to telephone the Shire with any questions in the first instance.
  • If you need to attend in person, please obey the signage displayed.
  • Only one person is to be allowed within the reception waiting area at a time. Please remain outside and wait your turn whilst respecting social distancing measures.
  • You are encouraged to use EFTPOS tap and go at Customer Service. Please avoid using cash where possible.

Please also follow the below measures at the Wyndham and Kununurra Landfill and Depot facilities:

  • You are encouraged to telephone the Shire with any questions in the first instance.
  • If you need to attend in person, please obey the signage displayed.
  • Only one person is to be allowed within reception waiting areas at a time. Please remain outside and wait your turn whilst respecting social distancing measures.
  • LANDFILL FACILITIES: Please remain in your vehicle at gate areas for an attendant to see you. This includes during the planned Free Waste Weekend on 28 and 29 March.
