The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley has updated its Directional Signage Policy (POL-4008) to improve wayfinding, road safety and visual amenity.
The Shire will immediately begin removing badly damaged or dangerous signs, together with deteriorated business directional signs where poor legibility affects wayfinding or visual amenity.
Other existing business-specific directional signs will be progressively removed during the maximum 24-month transition period from commencement of the policy, unless approved as Exceptional Wayfinding Signage. New business-specific directional signage will not be approved.
Businesses are encouraged to register and maintain accurate business locations on internet mapping services, such as Google Maps, Apple Maps and Bing Maps, to help customers find them.
The Shire will not routinely issue individual notices when each sign is removed. For badly damaged or dangerous signs, the Shire will endeavour to contact the original applicant in accordance with the policy.
Businesses wishing to request the return of a removed sign should email mail@swek.wa.gov.au, identifying the business and the sign’s location.
